your instructor: Laura Harrison

In addition to holding several fitness and yoga certifications, Laura has been studying holistic nutrition, buddhist philosophy/psychology and living a daily practice of Yoga, Buddhism & meditation since 2005. Her intuitive teaching is aimed at opening the doors of awareness within her students, awakening them to their own inner wisdom. The treasure that unfolds during their practice is the fruit of their effort, she simply points them in the right direction.

Her private lessons are custom tailored to suit her student's needs- incorporating all aspects of being- in order to remove obstacles to wellness and bring harmony to the mind, the body and the spirit. Private lessons can begin with a physical pratice alone, or she may offer a combination of yogasanas, open discussion, deep listening, philosophy, breath-work, meditation, meditative weight-lifitng or more. In the sessions, the goal is to understand the layers of illusions that are obstructing the right view of oneself. Removing those layers of misconception one by one, what was always there becomes apparent; the loving, healthy, happy and wise being at the core.

Influences: Yoga, ayurveda, vastu, Buddhism, environmentalism, Nature and science

The movement patterns in the Natural Method classes are highly influenced by many schools of yoga & movement. Large influences have been Swami Sivananda & Vishnudevananda, Shiva Rea, John Friend, & others. Ballet, Callenetics, Pilates & bellydance are also strong influences.

Inspiration: The joy, insight, interconnection & wisdom coming from loving & serving my young son.

Other inspirations are found everyday, in nature, sometimes in the smiles of strangers, the playing of children or in the poignancy of daily living.

Restorative Yoga + Meditation: After a very gentle, flowing warm-up to stimulate and realign the energy, we move to completely passive poses for "letting-go" of physical & emotional tension. Contains 40-45 minutes of these very restful postures- This has a calming, clarifying, and rejuvenating effect overall. Also contains meditation. It is like an hour away at a spa, minus the messy treatments. A great place for beginners or those looking for mental/physical recharging, deep relaxation or emotional healing.

Shanti Yoga: ('shanti' means 'peace') A very-grounding Sivananda-influenced practice infused with other elements. It is calming and mildly challenging, meditative and dynamic. Postures are held without straining for moderate amounts of time. Students are instructed to respect their present moment energy and thus can create exactly the right balance of exertion and relaxation. Good & stimulating, this is one way to exercise your body while playing with your child.

Family yoga A fun and dynamic class for children ages 5-10 and their parents & the young at heart. We pick up where we left off in toddler yoga, beginning to focus a little more, preparing kids for school & deeper learning. We do sun salutation warm-ups, some team-work poses, & encourage thoughtfulness, creativity & confidence. We do deep breathing, laughing, smiling and learn about our bodies, emotions & minds. We work on self-control & confidence. Great for those with curious minds! always taught for who is present- great for all levels

Cleansing, healing, builds confidence to enhance calm & inspiration in body & mind. Contains some additional focus on the core. great for slightly experienced beginners or intermediate practitioners

Prana Bellydance: Instead of learning a particular routine, students learn the elements, key movements and muscle isolations of an eclectic style of bellydance. This is very strengthening but adaptable to all fitness and energy levels. The roots of bellydance extend very deep into ancient traditions world-over as sacred celebration dances & strengthening rituals to celebrate the feminine and prepare women for motherhood. Part of each class is spent on free dancing to connect to these roots, to release the tension from the mind and body and to let go of inhibitions to feel vividly alive. This allows for an energetic cleansing and realigning. Yoga influences the cool-down stretches, but class is completely off the mat. If you'd like, feel free to dress in a flowy skirt, it feels even better!! Women only!! Strengthens the core and postural alignment all levels-listen to your limits

Strength Yoga: A deeper strengthening yogic practice with a meditative essence. Pulsating holds are fairly long ( 7+ breaths) to allow mind, body & spirit to merge in each moment with breath and experience. Pulsing holds infuse patience, strength, and flexibility into the being. Some more advanced poses may introduced, so listening to the body's limits is emphasized. Students are urged to remain where they are challenged, but not strained. Sometimes creative sun salutation variations are offered to increase the intensity and deeply open the body, freeing energy to flow. Realigns the body, balances, challenges...contains some additional focus on the core. challenging- intermediate level for those with some recent yoga and or fitness experience. prerequisite for Prana Yoga.

Prana Yoga: A smooth-flowing practice that creates strength, grace, awareness & patience as it refreshes. This includes an extra focus on core strength for its many mind & body health benefits.
