Class Descriptions
(listed from most gentle to most athletic- all classes are meditative, but only some contain dedicated meditation time regularly. Always respect your body and level of energy)
NOTE: All classes include final relaxation (savasana)/cool-down, breathing (pranayama), inner awareness (pratyahara), a non-comparitive and nurturing space for learning, contemplation and practice.
Happy Hour & Open-Level Yoga: An open and organic experience that can combine any techniques or postures. Class is based on the environmental and participant energy and level, so everyone can enjoy. great for all levels
Restorative & Meditation: Begins or ends with breathing & meditation for 30 minutes. Contains 30-40 minutes of very gentle postures- some held and some gently flowing at each individual's own pace. A high level of surrender versus exertion is recommended. This has a calming, clarifying, and rejuvenating effect overall. A great place for beginners
Yoga: A classic Sivananda-based practice that is calming and gently challenging, meditative and dynamic. Postures are held for moderate amounts of time. Students are instructed to respect their present moment energy and thus can create exactly the right balance of exertion and relaxation. great for all levels
Vinyasa Flow: (an 'at your pace' flow) A fluidly dynamic class that requires relatively low energy output and actually raises energy levels. Very gentle & strengthening, we flow in a Tai-Chi type manner at our individual paces. The goal is to begin by slowing down movement patterns and welcome the energy that comes to us as we naturally experience the changing pace of drawing in Prana (energy). Cleansing, healing, builds confidence to enhance calm & inspiration in body & mind. great for all levels
Yoga Bellydance: Instead of learning a particular routine, students learn the elements, key movements and muscle isolations of an eclectic style of bellydance. This is very strengthening but adaptable to all fitness and energy levels. The roots of bellydance extend very deep into ancient tradtions world-over as sacred celebration dances. Part of each class is spent on free dancing to connect to these roots, to release the tension from the mind and body and to let go of inhibitions to feel vividly alive. Yoga influences the cool-down stretches, but class is completely off the mat. If you'd like, feel free to dress in a flowy skirt, and evoke your inner gypsy, faery or spirit!! Women only!! all levels-listen to your limits!
Trancendental Dancing: Organic and natural movement in response to environmental energy, personal physical and emotional feelings, & the tone of the music. Not dancing for the sake of looking good or performing any particular movements- instead this is a class or workshop that is designed to open and strengthen the body gently and naturally, and more importantly, to build awareness, inner connection, condidence and intuition. great for all levels
Prana Yoga: ( was called "Pilates-Yoga Blend") A meditative and strengthening yogic practice with about 5 minutes of Pilates core work. Poses are held for 3-6 breaths to open and tone the body, calm and focus the mind. Feel your spine and posture realigned by class end. Natural limits and present moment energy are to be honored. suitable for most levels, a little exercise and/or yoga experience recommended
Pilates + Prana Yoga: This is a fitness based yogic experience. Similar to Prana Yoga, this class offers more Pilates, and a slightly faster pace throughout (until the end). Remaining in the breath to get into a zen (meditative) experience of the moment, we tone areas that balance our modern lifestyle with a cleansing & warming breath, and bring it down to a cooler, calming state with our yoga postures. As always, natural limits and present moment energy are to be honored. suitable for most levels, a little exercise and/or yoga experience recommended
Strength Yoga: A deeper strengthening yogic practice with a meditative aspect. Holds are fairly long ( 3-7+ breaths) to allow mind, body & spirit to merge in each moment with breath and experience. Holding builds patience, strength, and flexibility. Some advanced poses are introduced, so listening to the body's limits is emphasized. Students are urged to remain where they are challenged, but not strained. Realigns the body, balances, challenges... for those with some recent yoga and or fitness experience
Samadhi Yoga: (advanced class) This class is more athletically-based, but keeps a deeply meditative aspect. Connection with self and natural rhythm is emphasized. From Sun Salutations with an upper body strengthening edge, we move to energizing flows, and then deep postures, expanding on the strength class repetoire and informed by the ashtanga primary series. Balancing poses cool and calm, before a touch of chanting meditation and our final relaxation in savasana. Designed to be a powerful experience.for those with some prior strength yoga experience or a strong fitness and flexibility background.
